On Writing and Resilience: What My Time in South Africa Taught Me About Resistance and Scholarly Production

Professor Brown’s presentation/workshop will explore the illusive process of developing a writing practice and the importance of dedicated time to read, think, discuss, and write for scholarly production. Following the uprisings that surged during the summer of 2020 in the immediate aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, Professor Brown’s research shifted to explore the growing global rejection of racial capitalism in the era of the COVID-19 Pandemic. In addition to exploring, why the protests, uprisings, and rebellions in response to George Floyd’s death resonate with people all over the world and what the pandemic and subsequent vaccine roll out reveals about the ills of racial capitalism, this presentation will examine what the rejection of racial capitalism can and should look like for those of us who identify as scholars/academics.
